This one-day workshop offers a comprehensive introduction to trade tariffs and the UK Integrated Tariff, providing clear guidance on navigating the structure of commodity codes (HS Codes). Through practical tips and hands-on learning, you’ll understand how to classify goods accurately per WCO tariff classification guidelines.
The course covers the complete structure of the tariff and the key elements HMRC considers during an audit of your commodity codes. You’ll learn essential rules for tariff classification and discover how choosing the wrong code can impact your business. We will guide you through the General Interpretative Rules (GIRs) and how they apply to various products.We will also explore specific code components such as duty rates, tariff suspensions, preferences, and controlled-item restrictions.
Additionally, the course teaches you how to build a methodology for tariff classification, accurately log commodity codes, and apply for Advanced Tariff Rulings (ATaRs), equipping you with practical skills to ensure compliance. In the afternoon, you’ll participate in a live exercise where you’ll classify a diverse range of products under the guidance of a qualified International Trade Advisor, putting your newly acquired skills to the test.
