In this workshop learner will find out why the tariff is so important, not only because it contains the commodity codes classifications but because of it's link to other trade measures. It looks at the structure of the Harmonised System (HS) and uses interactive session to help you understand how to classify your goods, the importance of section and chapter notes and how and when to use the General Interpretative Rules (GIRs).
This one-day workshop focuses on the trade tariff's background and the information in the UK Integrated Tariff and explains the structure of commodity codes (HS Codes). This one-day course is full of guided learning with practical tips and hints on navigating around the Integrated Tariff of the UK to give you a better understanding. This course will teach you how to classify goods correctly following the WCO guidance on tariff classification.
You will better understand the tariff structure, and what HMRC look for during an audit of the commodity codes you have already used within your business. We will look at the rules relating to the tariff classification of products and how they can impact a trader if a wrong tariff code is selected. We will also guide you through the General Interpretive Rules (GIRs) and how these are applied to the goods.
When navigating the UK Integrated Tariff, we will view the different aspects of a commodity code, such as rates of duty, tariff suspension, preference, and restrictions on controlled items. In addition, you will learn how to create a tariff classification methodology, log your commodity codes correctly, and apply for Advanced Tariff Rulings (ATaRs). Arming you with the practical skills you need to ensure compliance.
During the afternoon, we hold a live exercise where you put your new skills to the test classifying a wide range of products with a qualified International Trade Advisor on hand to assist with this challenging and confusing topic.

HS2017: Amended every 5 years, the HS Coding System is constantly being reviewed, what changed in 2017 and what is on the table for the 2022 amendments
